Clementine Porcelain
Designed to Serve
On August 1st, 2012, Tracy Shell and Jesse Ross launched clementineporcelain.com. The site houses a retail shop offering for purchase one of a kind objects as well as production items. This January, they traveled East to the New York International Gift Fair officially entering the wholesale market.
That said the central focus of our mission is Service, not profit:
- 25% of net profits from the sale of Clementine Porcelain are donated directly to the Backpack Program administered by the Food Bank for the Heartland. This initial percentage is the minimum, as our business grows, so will the percentage of profits earmarked for donation.
- The Plate Project:
- Functional porcelain plates are cast and fired by us, then the bisque is decorated by children. The idea is to create a context in which kids can make a real contribution to alleviating child hunger in their own community (also, it’s really fun).
- 100% of the net profits generated through this line are donated to the Food Bank.
- Finally, because we’re teachers, we’ve developed an experiential course cycle during which students prototype their own designs and apply to wholesale shows during the first semester, then, contingent on show performance, fill orders during the second.
